A cyclic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), Melanotan II is a non-selective agonist at the melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R) and has been widely used in laboratory research examining melanogenesis and melanocortin-receptor signalling. Research applications include MC1R-mediated pigmentation models, α-MSH structure–activity studies, and peptide–receptor interaction dynamics.
